RVA Beer Week 2013: Tap Takeovers, Pub Crawls & Samplings

Friday November 1st

First Friday 5th Anniversary Screens ‘n’ Suds Party — Gallery 5 — 6 – 10PM
Friday will be the prelude to the Screens ‘n’ Suds Big Event on Saturday. Get a taste of what will be on tap and get your first peek at the month-long Screens ‘n’ Suds retrospective exhibit featuring every beautiful, beer-inspired print produced in their five-year history.

Max’s Tavern Screens ‘n’ Suds After Party — 11pm-2am
After enjoying great beers and art at Gallery 5, check out the newest addition to the Richmond Beer Scene. Belgian themed Max’s Tavern has 24 taps and a huge bottle list of all Belgian and Belgian-style beers. Kitchen closes at midnight and last call is at 2am.

RVA Mustache Dash — Strangeways Brewing — 10:30AM – 3PM
5k run/walk and post party that pays tribute to the borderlands between the upper lip and nose. Participants are encouraged to have a mustache, real or fake. This run is 100% silly.

Carytown-RVA Brewers Parade- 5:30-10pm
The Richmond Area’s breweries will be bar crawling in Cary Town. Starting at the Portrait house- 5:30pm. Brewers and staff from Rusty Beaver, Hardywood, Legend, Midnight, Extra Billys’s, Strangeways, Center of the Universe, Isley Brewing, and Lickinghole Creek will be hitting 7 Carytown restaurants. Join the group and support Richmond beer.

Popkin Tavern — Big Lebowski COTU Tap takeover — 6PM-Close
Featuring the full line up of Center of the Universe beers including their newest El Duderino White Russian Stout.

Wednesday November 6th

UPDATE: Due to various issues, tonight’s pin crawl has been canceled but you can still get some delicious cask conditioned beers.  Commercial Taphouse will have a pin of Devils Backbone Wood Aged Kilt Flasher.  Nearby, Joe’s Inn will have a pin of Hardywood Second Anniversary Ale (tequila barrel aged tripel). 

3rd Annual RVA Pin Crawl — Commercial Taphouse, Cask, Social 52 — 5:30PM

3 Beercentic Locations each with its own special small batch pin (traditional hand-tapped, gravity-fed, casks that have gone through their secondary fermentation process in the vessel.) We will be walking from Cask to Commercial Taphouse to Social 52.

Heavy Seas Tap Takeover — Hurley’s Tavern –  5pm
Heavy Sea rep Brian Gearing will be available to talk to you about his delicious beers. 6 beers on tap and glassware while supplies last.

Offering tours on the hour (2, 3, 4 and 5pm) and a special line up of pins in honor of RVA Beer Week – music following will include My Darling Fury and the Awesome Few.

Craft Sausage Gorging Competition — Strangways Brewing –– 3PM
Strangeways teams up with Sausage Craft to have you contend against your fellow man to see how many Sausage Craft sausages you can shovel down for prizes and bragging rights.

$20 fee includes 5 Sausage Craft sausages with all the fixins (quickest to down 5 wins), a beer during competition and discount specials all day.  1st place receives a $100 Strangeways gift certificate, 2nd place will receive a $50 gift certificate and 3rd place will receive a $25 gift certificate.

Bottom to Tap. Hardywood Park 3 Miler — 17th Street Farmers Market — 11AM
Presented by Shake and Bake Sports and benefiting the Enrichmond Foundation, the Bottom To Tap is the 3 Miler that starts at the bottom and ends at the tap! This casual run starts in Shockoe Bottom, goes through historic Church Hill and returns to the 17th Street Farmer’s Market for a great party. The stage for Autumn Bottom Brews will be rocking throughout the day featuring Andy Vaughn & the Drive Line playing from 11-1pm & finishing the day with a live performance from regional bluegrass favorite, Jackass Flats.

There are ample parking areas in and around the historic 17th Street Farmers’ Market on Main and Cary Streets, from 15th Street to 18th Street.

Not a lot on this event yet other than a craft beer and food festival located outside the Historical Society. I’m working on getting more information.

RVA Beer Week 2013: Beer Dinners & Other Specials

RVA Beer Week is finally upon us for 2013. Running from November 1st to 10th, there will be a lot to experience. If you’re looking to eat your way through the week, here are some options.

RVA Charity Beer Dinner — TJ’s at the Jefferson — 7PM

The beer dinners at TJs have always been top notch. This promises to be the same. $5 from every plate goes to 2 Bottom & Back Bus.
