World Beer Festival Rockets back to Richmond

HAPPY CINCO DE MAYO!  For all of you All About Beer Magazine subscribers, today is your first chance to buy tickets for this year’s festival before they go on sale to the general public.

Richmond will open the gates of Brown’s Island for its second World Beer Festival on Saturday June 18, 2011 with the proceeds benefiting FETCH a Cure once again this year.  The general public will be able to purchase tickets starting on May 9th. Four days may never seem so long.  Tickets will be available online here or you can buy them at Mekong or any of the three Capital Ale House locations.

This year’s festival promises to be better than the last. How do I know? Why, because they asked me!  Last week, I had the extreme honor of participating in a roundtable discussion called by the folks at All About Beer Magazine to discuss how to improve upon last year’s festival. A lot of great ideas were tossed around. While I can’t tell you what will be different this year, I can tell you that the people at All About Beer are committed to making the festival something Richmonders can be proud to call their own.

If you have not marked your calendar yet, take a look at what I wrote about last year’s festival over at GayRVA.com here.

With GayRVA.com having it’s birthday party on the 17th and WBF RVA on the 18th, these two days in June are bound to be the hottest RVA has had all year.

Big Brew Day Is This Saturday

Saturday, May 7th, marks the 10th annual Big Brew Day sanctioned by the American Homebrewers Association. Homebrewers from around the  world choose from predetermined recipes to brew on that day.  This year’s recipes include an India Pale Ale, a Belgian Wit, and a Porter; see the actual recipes here.   Our local homebrewing club, the James River Homebrewers, will be brewing beer at the Weekend Brewer in Chester starting at 9am.  If you ever wondered about how beer is made, this is a great opportunity and promises to be a great time for all.  So drive on down and join on the fun.  Get there by noon and you may be able to join in on the worldwide toast.

Happy Birthday & Welcome!

Hello, Richmonders, from this day forward I will be your beermeister. Don’t let the title of Beermeister fool you; I’m really nice guy and I love to share!

What can you expect  from this new blog?  I’m so glad you asked. From my little corner of the internet, I hope to be able to share my love of all things in the craft beer world.  Sometimes this may include a great beer I discovered while out on in RVA.  Others maybe my experiences at breweries outside of Virginia that will be on my Wishlist.  Of course, I love to cook so I have to through in a recipe or two; how does a Cherry Stout Pound Cake sound?   When I hear about events coming to Richmond, you will hear about them here.

I think it is only fitting to start this new blog on my birthday.  With that said, here is what you can do for me.  Find a bar or restaurant in Richmond or wherever you are reading this from and raise glass or bottle of craft beer to me and this new endeavor.  If you need a list, here are a few of my favorites in RVA:

Can Can Brasserie

Tarrant’s Cafe

Mekong

The Belvidere at Broad

The Camel

Empress

You very well may find me at one of these places tonight. Cheers!
