Screens ‘N’ Suds will celebrate their tenth anniversary with a beer and art festival this Saturday November 9th at Studio Two Three starting at 11am. If you love beer and/or art, you should check this event out. Yes, I could point to the beer list (Spoiler Alert: the beers will be awesome) and tell you which beers I would try but I thought I would show you a few of my favorite pieces of art that I have purchased at SNS over the years.

These first two prints were created by Andrew Stronge for SnS’s fourth and fifth anniversaries. I love the robot theme. Year 4 reminds me of H.E.R.B.I.E. from the Fantastic Four comic books. Year 5 has us submitting to our robot overlord.

Stronge SnS years 4 & 5

This “Experiment with Beer” print resides in my kitchen. Ironically, it took me a few SnS visits to decide to grab this. I’m so glad I did. I couldn’t imagine being without it.

I know what you are thinking, why would I have two versions of the same print? The simple answer is Douglas and I couldn’t agree on which one was best. I loved how the print on the left was made on a map. He loved the foil and bold color of the other. So they both came home with us.

Frying Pan Tower Prints

This Tropical Galaxy print came around the time I was going crazy over how awesome the movie Guardians of the Galaxy was. Of course, I had to have this movie poster styled beer label.

And then there is the hop drip….I don’t think I realized until this very moment the MC Escher-ness of this print. See how the drop falling from the hop is being met with liquid rising from the surface?

Now the only question is what will I end up with this year? Head over to the Facebook event for more details and updates including how to get VIP tickets. Remember proceeds from this event will benefit National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU, Studio Two Three, and Gallery 5.

Who’s Got Spirit? Hardywood That’s Who!

Hardywood Spirit BraidSpirit Braid that is.

Celebrating the next installment of our Brewer & Artist Series, we present the work of Nick Walthall and Sara Gossett:

Hardywood Spirit Braid is a well attenuated, highly effervescent saison brewed with organic raw wheat from Grapewood Farm in Montross, Virginia. Seville and Cara Cara oranges bring brightness and a touch of acidity. Fermented in stainless with a blend of Nick’s favorite brewers yeast and Brettanomyces claussenii, this beer is unfiltered, 100% bottle conditioned, and is designed to be a crusher. 5.2% alcohol by volume.

Sara Gossett is an artist from Texas who has been living in Richmond, VA for nearly ten years. Working primarily with watercolor, she loves vintage style and design and is heavily inspired by everything from the eras of Art Nouveau and Art Deco to poster art and illustration from the 1960’s & ‘70’s, hand lettering, and decorative pattern from all over the world. She also loves music, from playing the flute to playing records at the occasional DJ gig.
See more at saragossett.com & on Instagram @saragossett

Spirit Braid will be available on draft, bottles and 4-packs beginning at 2pm, with NY Style food truck through the evening.

Late post as the day is almost over.

Here’s what you’ll find going on around town this weekend or as I like to say On Tap.

Friday September 13th

I’m going to try and check out RVA Street Art Festival before they close down at 6pm.  If you miss it, don’t worry they’ll open back up at 11am Saturday.  Also, don’t forget to grab some grub from Acacia’s side door.

Saturday September 14th

Heading over to look at more street art? Stop by Cask Cafe’s pre-opening sneak peek.  They will be grilling up Sausage Craft.

Hardywood releases RVA IPA starting at 2pm at the brewery with bands playing later.  I wonder how it would work in this IPA mustard recipe.
