Screens ‘N’ Suds will celebrate their tenth anniversary with a beer and art festival this Saturday November 9th at Studio Two Three starting at 11am. If you love beer and/or art, you should check this event out. Yes, I could point to the beer list (Spoiler Alert: the beers will be awesome) and tell you which beers I would try but I thought I would show you a few of my favorite pieces of art that I have purchased at SNS over the years.

These first two prints were created by Andrew Stronge for SnS’s fourth and fifth anniversaries. I love the robot theme. Year 4 reminds me of H.E.R.B.I.E. from the Fantastic Four comic books. Year 5 has us submitting to our robot overlord.

Stronge SnS years 4 & 5

This “Experiment with Beer” print resides in my kitchen. Ironically, it took me a few SnS visits to decide to grab this. I’m so glad I did. I couldn’t imagine being without it.

20191107_161220.jpg

I know what you are thinking, why would I have two versions of the same print? The simple answer is Douglas and I couldn’t agree on which one was best. I loved how the print on the left was made on a map. He loved the foil and bold color of the other. So they both came home with us.

Frying Pan Tower Prints

This Tropical Galaxy print came around the time I was going crazy over how awesome the movie Guardians of the Galaxy was. Of course, I had to have this movie poster styled beer label.

20191107_203634.jpg

And then there is the hop drip….I don’t think I realized until this very moment the MC Escher-ness of this print. See how the drop falling from the hop is being met with liquid rising from the surface?

20191107_161049.jpg

Now the only question is what will I end up with this year? Head over to the Facebook event for more details and updates including how to get VIP tickets. Remember proceeds from this event will benefit National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU, Studio Two Three, and Gallery 5.

Prost! Oktoberfest at Hardywood West Creek Today!

Shaking the cobwebs off the blog just a today.

Hardywood is hosting their first ever Oktoberfest at their West Creek location today Saturday October 5th starting at 1pm.  And judging from this video it looks like they are going all out. I mean look at that tent and that shirt!

I joked with Brian about cooking bratwursts at the festival but as it turns out my schedule will have me arriving late to the festivities. There would have been VIPA mustard.

So maybe don’t be like me and instead get there early.  The schedule above is jam packed with fun. Maybe save me a bit of the oak barrel beers?

So go out and hoist these steins.

For a safe way home, use the code HARDYWOODFEST19 for 50% off a Lyft ride. Maybe next year Hardywood will offer this code for to and from the festival.

Check out the Facebook event for more details and updates.

Navigate My Birthday Schedule This Saturday

Embed from Getty Images

This coming Saturday April 27th, I will be turning the grand old age of 42 otherwise known as the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything. As is typical in Richmond, there is no shortage (read: too many!) of things I would like to celebrate my birthday. There are so many things I’ve been forced to do something I really hate, write a schedule but I figured if I was going to write a schedule, I might as well share it.

For two years, guests have stormed the castle and enjoyed the beers from Castleburg Brewery. Two years might sound like a short time but here is a sampling of Castleburg’s accomplishments over that time:

  • Operating on a 2 barrel system, they manage to always 10 beers on tap.
  • Distribution of kegs to restaurants at the beginning of 2018 through VA Craft Distribution.

PARKING:
There are currently 200 parking spaces on-site for our West Creek customers. This is much more available parking than average! More parking will come online as construction continues. Please park in marked spaces only.

In the event of a busy day at the brewery, there is a third-party lot for overflow parking just across West Creek Parkway. The overflow parking lot does not belong to us. Hardywood has subsidized the cost of the parking lot rental so parking is only $3/vehicle. We have rented lighting equipment and hired parking attendants to ensure everyone’s safety. Cash/card will be accepted. Please note that this is a *temporary* solution as we welcome visitors in large volumes; additional parking is in the plans as we develop the property. Thank you in advance for your support and understanding.

Alternatively, there is a passenger drop-off spot at our front doors for your convenience. Lyft, Uber, or your DD can drop you here prior to parking!

WEATHER:
Welcome to Virginia! Will it be spring or will it be winter? In the event of rain, snow, sleet or volcano we are renting some super large tents to provide coverage over our outdoor patio. There will also be tents spread throughout the food truck court. Our brewery grounds are pretty expansive…you may want to pack an umbrella!

BEER SERVICE:
Our West Creek taproom has THREE bars, each with 20 taps. The main bar is very visible as you enter the taproom. There is an additional bar upstairs on the mezzanine level AND an outdoor service bar on the patio. Please feel free to explore the space rather than jumping in line at the main bar. See photos for visual reference.

DOGS:
YES. The pups are permitted in our outdoor areas only and they must be kept on their leashes. Given that this weekend may be rainy and/or snowy, it may be wise to leave canine friends in the comfort of home. Please clean up after the pups.

*Our taprooms are family-friendly.*

MORE TO COME:
Hardywood West Creek is BRAND NEW, and there will be a ton of additional amenities, decor, games, sound-proofing materials, plants, etc. being installed over the next few months. We can’t wait to share all of these additions with you, and we hope you’ll continue coming back to see what we’re up to!
