Goose Island Invasion Landing At Rappahannock Tonight

Goose Island Vintage Glass4Please turn your attention to the photo on the right.  This Goose Island vintage stemmed glass has been an object of my desire since my New Year’s Eve dinner at The Magpie last year.  Since that time, an opportunity to steal said glass had not presented itself until today.

This afternoon Tuesday July 30, Rappahannock will be the site of a Goose Island tap invasion and steal the glass night.  If you want one of these glasses as much as I do, you better get a move on; there are only 50 available.

Here is what  will be flowing Rappahannock’s taps for the night:

Sofie
Sofie Paradisi — Sofie w/ grapefruit instead of orange peel
Matilda
Pere Jacques
Pepe Nero
The Illinois — Imperial IPA

I’m hearing there will also be some Chi-town inspired dishes coming out of the kitchen.  Sounds like it will be a fun night. Beers will be tapped at 4pm.

Goose Island Madame Rose Hitting Richmond Today

I always have to debate whether to share information anytime I find out about a new beer coming to our market.  This is especially true for beers with limited availability that I may not have the time to run out and get.

Goose Island’s Madame Rose is just such a beer.  Available in 22oz bottles, Madame Rose is a Belgian style brown ale fermented with a wild yeast strain and aged on cherries in wine barrels.  You have no idea how much I want to try this beer.  Alas, I need to travel and still have packing and rooms to find.

So today is your lucky day.  I know where you can go to get the beer today if it sounds good to you. Here they are:

Ellwood Thompson
4 N. Thompson St.
Richmond VA 23221

Shield’s Market
206 North Shields Ave
Richmond, VA 23220

Total Wine

Go. Enjoy!

Tempting Goose Island Beer Dinner at The Magpie

The Magpie is having a beer dinner featuring Goose Island tomorrow Wednesday August 8th at 6pm.  The menu from Owen Lane sounds absolutely delicious. I really wish I could attend but a food allergy and another commitment will make me miss it.  This just means you will have to go for me.  The Magpie has long been on my list of need to check out restaurants in Richmond.  With a menu like this, I may have to check them out sooner rather than later.

Course Two
Butter braised lobster BLT, Pecan wood smoked bacon, heirloom tomatoes, romaine hearts, deviled quail eggs, caviar

Welcome to My Birthday Week

Hard to believe it’s been almost a year since I started this little blog.  I’ve had a lot of fun meeting the multifaceted people  who are responsible for bringing craft beer to the River City. These people range from distribution reps, brewery owners and staff, and restaurants. I especially love when I meet readers of the site.  Here are just a few things that caught my eye this week.

Tuesday April 24th

Goose Island Steal the Glass Night at Capital Ale House

I’ve enjoyed every Goose Island beer I’ve had since it first hit town at Weezie’s Kitchen.  I’m not going to miss my chance to get a glass. I suggest you don’t either.

Friday April 27th

This being my actual birth day will make deciding what to do especially difficult because it’s not as if there isn’t just one choice.  Restaurant Week has had me going back and forth on where to dine this night.  Right now, I’m thinking Bistro 27. I know you’re thinking that’s perfect.  I was reading over Bobby Kruger’s Libation Nation today and thought it’d be awesome to have him make me a signature beer cocktail for the night.

After dinner, I will be seeing the Blue Man group for the first time. I really hope they’re worth the hype.

An after show drink location is still to be determined. I’m open to suggestions.

Saturday April 28th

Hardywood’s timing could not be more perfect.  They are throwing a Spring Frolics party to celebrate the release of their first Barrel Series beer, Bourbon Grand Cru.  This will also mark their sixth month anniversary.  I will definitely be there to get my allotment.  Get more  info at the Facebook event here.

Oh before I forget, there will be cake. I’m still working out all the details but I will be bringing my birthday cake to the party. Right now it is going to be a Beeramisu cake using Hardywood Mocha Belgique.

Duck, Duck, Goose Island!

Head out to Weezie’s Kitchen on Wednesday, March 14th at 5pm to get a taste of Goose Island Beer as it hits the Richmond market for the first time.  Goose Island holds an impressive record of 15 consecutive years of medals at the Great American Beer Festival.  Take a look at the Classic and Vintage Ales that will be featured on draft:

Honker’s Ale — English Style Bitter
India Pale Ale
Matilda — Belgian Style Pale Ale
Pere Jacques — Belgian Style Abbey Ale

For more information, head over to the Facebook event page here and prepare to get Goosed.
