Virginia Craft Beer Month will kickoff around town today Saturday August 1st with beer releases, beer games, and an anniversary. Here is just a little of what you will find today.

Station 2 Fourth Anniversary Party with Devils Backbone — 11AM

Head over throughout the day to celebrate Station 2’s fourth anniversary with rare beers from Devils Backbone.

RVA Beer Games at Lickinghole Creek — Noon

Hang out with your favorite breweries and play a few games. Show your favorite brewer how much you loved their beer by dunking them in a tank.

What’s better than all of your favorite breweries getting together for one day? Getting them all together for an epic field day at Lickinghole Creek Craft Brewery. Yes that’s right ladies and gentleman LCCB and Richmond Breweries United are joining forces to put on the first ever RVA Beer Games.

Each brewery is serving beer and joining in the days festivities! Don’t miss your chance to play alongside or against your favorite brewery. Prizes will be awarded to the winners and best in show!

BOOM! Choco-o-Lotta Chocolate Lager Release at Strangeways — Noon

In addition to running their “Steal the Vessel” special all month long, Strangeways will release their chocolate lager today at noon.

Chocolate and lager beer lovers unite! It’s the release of BOOM! Choco-o-Lotta Chocolate Lager- detonating on August 1st at noon. A darker Märzen lager is aged over gobs of cocoa nibs and vanilla beans to impart an explosion of luscious, chocolatey flavor amongst the rich, German malts.

As you drink in the richness of this lager, your tastebuds cry yes, yes, yes while a chocolatey explosion erupts in your mouth. BOOM! You will never be the same.

BOOM! Choc-o-Lotta Chocolate Lager is available on draft only or to-go in any grunt, growler, CANABLE or Blue Ball Mason jar.

5.1% ABV~18 IBU

Hardywood + Starr Hill: Sunnidalia, RPG IPA, & Can’t Get Any Sleep Releases at Hardywood — 2PM

Hardywood and Starr Hill collaborated to create a hoppy hefeweizen using the relatively new Hull Melon hop.

Hardywood Sunnidalia is in collaboration with Starr Hill Brewery using a traditional Hefeweisen malt bill and Weihenstephaner yeast. We took it one step further and created a hoppy version of the traditional wheat beer by using copious amounts of Hull Melon hops and a touch of wildflower honey. This beer is uniquely aromatic and suitable for summer. 6.8% ABV

Hardywood RPG IPA is loud, bitter and inescapably black. An American Black IPA blasting crucial aromas of resin and citrus from the copious amounts of Simcoe, Centennial, and Amarillo hops. Midnight wheat layered with flaked barley and oat leave a silky mouth feel and the slightest hint of roast in the finish. Now turn that up for 15 more years! (7% abv)
