Once again it is time for a week long celebration of the Belgian Independence from King Leopold starting today July 15th to 21st. Of course Mekong has you covered but Popkin Tavern is also getting in on the fun.

Boulevard Brewing hit the Richmond area in a few retail stores last week but the month of June is when the real fun starts. Here is some basic event information to get you started on where to go.

Tuesday, June 18th at 6:30, we will welcome Boulevard Brewing to Richmond. New to town, this Kansas City brewery has achieved worldwide acclaim. Since The Fat Dragon is on the Boulevard, we thought it fitting to host a dinner with their incredible beers. Look for classic styled IPA’s like their “Single & Double Wide IPA’s” and big Belgian flavor found in their “Sixth Glass”. $50 per person.

Head over to Mekong today Thursday April 18th as they host the Richmond release party for Missouri brewery Perennial Artisan Ales. Perennial is a small batch brewery in St Louis, MO focusing on farmhouse ales, seasonal beers using local ingredients, and barrel aged varieties. Perennial has the adventurous craft beer drinker in mind with each batch brewed.

Head over to Mekong this Saturday February 9th to participate in a bottle share thrown by the Good People Beer Club with Screens N Suds to raise money to benefit MS Society.
The bottle share will be GPBC’s first and they hope annual event run at the same time with an event in NYC. They are focusing on more malt forward beers for this sharing session and ask that you bring your best stouts, porters, barleywines, scotch ales, etc. $10 gets you in at the door and you will receive 10 pours for each 22oz bottle and 5 pours for each 12oz bottle you bring.
The event will last from 3 – 6pm with food provided by Mekong. Make sure to register here and check out the Facebook event to see what other people are bringing.

Fourth Annual SuperBOWL Eating Contest — Mekong — 5pm
Mekong will crown their fourth Pho King champion tonight where ten men and women will down a lot of pho and beer. Get there early if you think you have what it takes to sign up. Of course, Mekong will be tapping some special beers. The champion will be crowned before the kickoff of the big game so stick around and watch it on their big screen.
Head over to Mekong for a Green Flash tap takeover tonight Wednesday January 30th starting at 5pm. Brewmaster Chuck Silva will be around to discuss the beers.

Frequent Mekong enough and you have probably enjoyed a sour beer or two. Garnering top scores on Ratebeer and Beeradvocate, it’s no surprise BFM Bon Chien is the most popular sour ordered.
Tonight Thursday November 29th will be a special night as Mekong welcomes BFM (Brasserie des Franches-Montagnes) founder Jérôme Rebetez. To start the evening, they will be tapping a Bon Chien vertical of 2009, 2010 and 2011. Other BFM beers are sure to be tapped throughout the evening.
It is not often that we get visited by someone like Rebetez. So head out and soak up some Swiss craft beer knowledge.
