Monday Beer Dinners: Lickinghole Creek At Southbound and Hardywood At Graffiato
Does anyone really like to cook on a Monday? I know I don’t. Especially, if what I planned for Sunday was very involved. Plus, you had one of those Mondays; you know the ones where everything goes wrong. Maybe take this Monday March 16th off and head out to a beer dinner or two.
Lickinghole Creek Cask Pin Dinner at Southbound — 6PM
UPDATE: Southbound was not able to sell enough tickets to host this dinner. The pins will be tapped at a later date.
Southbound has the makings of a hit dinner on its hands here. Three cask conditioned pins each paired with three small plate items. These are unique creations you will not see anywhere else. You will normally only see one cask beer at a dinner due to how much they cost the restaurant. This is a rare treat. Don’t sleep on this and miss out.
The cost for the dinner is $50/person. Contact the restaurant to reserve your spot.

Check out these Devils Backbone collaborations that will be on tap tonight at Joe’s Inn in the Fan. Good luck choosing a favorite. Personally, I’m having a hard time choosing between Fat Head’s Double Gooch and Ninkasi’s The Devil Went Down To Oregon.

Hardywood & Plan 9’s 33 1/3 Black Vinyl Stout Release Is Today. All Of This Citrus Smells Amazing!
Hardywood has teamed up with Plan 9 to celebrate the record store’s passion for vinyl records over the decades, 33 1/3 years of vinyl love in Richmond to be exact. They have poured their love into the liquid sound of 33 1/3 Black Vinyl Stout bringing “forth the warmth of sound and flavor achieved with a full bodied stout (or a vinyl record) and a chorus of citrus flavors to complete the track. Cara Cara oranges, Sumo mandarins, and kumquats harmonize together to compliment the deep chocolate malt backbone. Savor in stereo.”
I happened into Hardywood just in time to smell the amazing combination of citrus that would make it into this beer. If you have ever sectioned any type of citrus, you how much of a pain it can be. Yes, I helped a little bit.
Head over to Hardywood today Saturday March 7th starting at 2pm to give this collaboration a try. Black Vinyl Stout will be available on draft for pints and growler fills.
Hardywood will also debut an Irish Coffee Stout on nitro on Saturday as well.
Hardywood Irish Coffee Stout celebrates the luck of the Irish channeling warm rich, creamy notes of vanilla beans along strong roasty, dark chocolate flavors. We partnered with Cafe Stella in historic Ghent in Norfolk Virginia using their espresso roast to perk up your day and blend with Willamette hops for a beautiful floral, earthy aroma. Served on Nitro Tap. 8.5% ABV 25 SRM 40 IBU
Plan 9 will have DJs spinning from 2- 4:30 followed by live music from Hotel X, The Diamond Center, White Laces, and Kepone.

Enlightened Despot Returns To The Farm At Lickinghole Creek Saturday
Enlightened Despot returns for its second year at Lickinghole Creek Craft Brewery this Saturday March 7th starting at Noon.
The Enlightened Despot is an amazingly rich, complex and surprisingly drinkable Bourbon Barrel Russian Imperial Stout. Notes of chocolate, vanilla, and delicious Bourbon round out this robust stout. Aged for 8 months in the most premium Kentucky Bourbon Barrels available. The Enlightened Despot is made with 10 specialty grains and contains over 78 IBU of American Hop flavor. This truly is a one of a kind beer.
In the June 2014 edition of Beer Advocate, the Bros rated the Enlightened Despot a 94 saying, “The beer geeks love their Imperial Stouts, and a small handful garner enough hype to draw massive crowds around their release. This one is just as deserving as the next. A sweet malt bomb with roasted grain and alcohol is not all that is going on here; there’s also layers of chocolate and coffee met by alcohol warmth. Something to savor.”
This year LCCB has expanded the Despot line by adding two bottle variants of Hug The Despot (vanilla) and Awaken The Despot (Blanchard’s Dark as Dark coffee).
There will also be special timed tappings of cask conditioned versions of Enlightened Despot:
Noon — Cherry Pie
1pm — Graham Cracker & Honey
2pm — Coffee & Biscotti
3pm — Mixed Berry
4pm — Mint
5pm — Pecan Pie
Including Despot, here are the beers LCCB will have on draft for the event:
Enlightened Despot – Bourbon Barrel Russian Imperial Stout
Virginia Black Bear – Base Beer for Enlightened Despot
Vanilla Virginia Black Bear – Base Beer for Hug the Despot
Redneck Soap Opera – Rum Barrel Spiced Quad
La Calavera Catrina – Tequila Barrel Three Chopt Tripel

Thoroughbred Brown Ale – Estate Series American Brown Ale
Magic Beaver – Hop Forward Belgian Style Pale Ale
