Three Hardywood Collaboration Pins At Capital Ale House Midlothian Friday

Head over to Capital Ale House Midlothian Friday April 12th starting at 7pm as they tap three specially made pins of Hardywood beers. Choosing anything their taste buds desired and having their choice of any Hardywood beer to use as the base, the gang at Cap Ale created the following three pins:
- Tripel — Fuggles and Kent Goldings hops smoked with wood chips from barrel once containing Hardywood’s Bourbon Cru — Matt Simmons
- Tripel — local raw honey, dried tart cherries and Oloroso Sherry barrel chips — Chris Holder
- Singel — blood orange peel, fresh ginger, and a touch of organic honey — Rachel and Amy DuFour,

Spring has arrived just in time for the inaugural Carytown Craft Beer Festival this Sunday April 14th from noon to 6pm. Tickets are $15/$20 (in advance/at gate) and include a souvenir pint glass (while supplies last) and unlimited sampling of Virginia craft beer. Leading up to next Sunday’s Carytown Craft Beer Festival, Carytown Cupcakes will be featuring craft beer flavors from April 8 – 14th. I have enjoyed many of their cupcakes in the past but especially their vegan flavors. It is no surprise to see Hardywood featured so prominently. Gluten-free Richmonders will be pleased by the use of Dogfish Head’s Tweason Ale.

Place Your Crazy Bet At Center of the Universe Tonight
Head up to Center of the Universe tonight Friday April 5th as they release their latest beer. From the imagination of head brewer and armchair historian, Mike Killelea, COTU’s Crazy Bet Imperial Amber is named after Elizabeth Van Lew a prominent Richmond resident during the Civil War, who used her Church Hill mansion to hide escaped slaves and Union prisoners of war.
Crazy Bet has a base of English mild ale malts with different caramel malts to adding sweetness and a deep ruby color. Hop additions in the boil include Columbus, Mount Hood, and Nugget in order to balance the bitterness and intense aromas. As a final measure, the beer is dry-hopped with Columbus and Nugget.

Hardywood & The Magpie Present Your Dinner This April

In my few trips to The Magpie, I have become very impressed with Chef Owen Lane’s food. I’m really intrigued by this beer dinner menu he has put together with Hardywood on Tuesday April 9th at 6pm. I’ve been afraid of trying sweetbreads before but the General Tso’s preparation should add a familiarity for the uninitiated. Oh and a Hardywood tripel? Yes, please!
