Hot off their Bronze (Best of Show) & Gold (Fruit/Spice/Vegetable) medal wins for Gingerbread Stout this weekend, Hardywood will invade the taps at On the Rox in Shockoe Bottom tonight Monday August 26th at 6pm. They will be bringing another medal winner with them in the form of a pin of the 2012 winning beer from James River Homebrewer’s Dominion Cup Competition.
Here is what will be on tap for the night:
Singel
Virginia Blackberry
Bourbon DIPA
Pin of Coconut Porter
If you haven’t eaten at On the Rox before, make sure to try the food. If you have, you know exactly what I’m talking about.

Right now your guess is as good as mine but hey free glasses. You’ll find it on this calendar as well.
Apparently, we are all missing out on what Savory Grain has been cooking for Virginia Craft Beer Month. Yesterday, they posted this Instagram of their menu board as they welcomed Blue Mountain Brewery for the night.
Both items sounded delicious but unfortunately I could not make it. Maybe I should have moved heaven & earth so I could have enjoyed this Blue Mountain Summer Haze Marinated Grilled Boar.
Scanning through the rest of the Instagram feed, I found they had two tasty dishes feature Legend Brewing on a day I almost made it to.
Legend Locomotive Lager Marinated Pork Chop
Legend Brown Battered Red Fish topped with a Cajun Creme Fraiche
Tonight, Wednesday August 14th, Savory Grain is hosting Strangeways Brewing for a tap takeover starting at 5pm. I’m anxious to see what they will come up for the menu tonight. Who’s with me?
Strangeways debuts their sour saison tonight at 6pm at the brewery and 8pm at Mekong. There will be a special curiousity and Andall at each location, respectively.
This sounds like an interesting lecture for tonight especially for homebrewers and sour fans. Register online here.

Today, Thursday August 1st, is both the start of VA Craft Beer Month and National IPA Day. If you’re looking to get hoppy, The Camel has you covered. They will be tapping 14 IPAs or DIPAs from across Virginia.
Here is what they plan on tapping:
COTU Homefront
3 Brothers The Admiral
Hardywood Hoplar
Hardywood Bourbon DIPA
Strangeways Phantasmic
Starr Hill Double Platinum
O’Connor Great Dismal Black
Legend Hopfest
Blue Mountain DIPA
Apocalypse Hoppacalypse
Lost Rhino Faceplant
Parkway Get Bent
Devils Backbone 8 Point
Extra Billy’s Citra Ass Down
The Camel will be opening for lunch at 11am so you can start celebrating as early as you want.
Don’t forget to check the calendar for more cool events going on this month.
Virginia Craft Beer Month officially starts tomorrow Thursday August 1st but you can get your party on with Strangeways’ Compendium of Curiosities tonight.
The compendium is all new tonight and includes:
I. MONKEY PICKED WALLONIAN DAWN HONEY SAISON: We have to start by saying that this is not a joke. Growing on some of the steepest mountains in the world are the highly sought after Golden Oolong tea leaves (used in this Imperial Reserve blend), which are infused delicately into this one of a kind creation. It is so dangerous to procure these leaves that man requires the aid of only the most talented and agile of climbers…monkeys that have been carefully trained by Buddhist monks. We do not recommend A.F.M. to make this scintillating climb unless he has only been drinking our Super Session-able Saison. A perfect match!
II. CHOCOLATE RASPBERRY WOODBOOGER BELGIAN BROWN ALE: Emperor’s Chocolate Elixir provides subtle hints of dark chocolate which are then accentuated with luscious red raspberries and interwoven in the deep textures of our complex Belgian Brown Ale. Liquid dessert!
III. SAMURAI CHAI MIXOLYDIAN RAG RYE BOCK: A unique Japanese tea is formed by blending roasted and popped rice with an amazing green sencha. Then a healthy addition of fresh ground chai spices is made. The result is a nutty infusion with a bit of spice to add to the slightly smoky Rye Bock base. Prost meets Kanpai!
The beers will be tapped at 4pm. Head over to the Facebook event for more details.
