Capital Ale House Anniversary Beer: Month 3

Just in time for St Patrick’s Day, Capital Ale House will unveil it’s third tenth anniversary beer on Friday, March 16th at 6pm.  Fittingly, the beer will be from O’Connor Brewing from Norfolk, VA. Barmbrack (/ba:mbrak/) Irish Stout was brewed using an old family Irish bread recipe using raisins, black currants, and cinnamon.  You can expect notes of chocolate melding with the fruitiness from the raisins and black currants followed by a pleasing cinnamon finish.  While this high gravity (8.5% ABV) Irish stout will be tapped at all Cap Ale locations, you will only be able to meet brewery owner Kevin O’Connor at the Downtown location.  For more information, go to the Facebook event.

Growler King Says…

It’s time for half off growler fills at Whole Foods Short Pump.  That’s right all day Friday March 16th, you can walk into Whole Foods and have your growler filled for half of what it normally costs. But what’s a day like this without something to look forward to? Here’s the list of of kegs to be tapped for Whole Foods Half off day:

This is just a sampling of what will be available; there’s bound to be some surprises as well.  Keep an eye on the Facebook page for updates.

Not in Richmond? So far I’ve only heard that the Charlottesville location to be having the half off specials.  If the Whole Foods near you has draft available, you might want to go ask about this.

Special guests at Short Pump include Eric and Patrick from Hardywood, Mike from Legend and Jonathan from Heavy Seas.

It all starts at 8AM and goes until close or THEY RUN OUT OF BEER!

Leap Day Appropriate Beer

An extra day in the month meant I was supposed to have extra time.  Somehow that did not happen. Well there’s no way I’m letting this 29th day of Februrary get by without having some fun.  This tweet from Dogfish Head had me wondering how many different ways could we celebrate Leap Day with beer.

Let’s see how many different beers qualify if we use the numbers 29 and 60.

Anniversary Beers

Weyerbacher’s anniversary beers immediately came to mind.  You could have a Fourteen and a Fifteen, 4 Fifteens, 2 Fourteens and 2 Sixteens.

ABV

This one requires math but the end results are fun.

The Bruery’s Cuir comes in at 14.5% ABV so you only need two to get 29.

He’Brew Jewbelation Fifteen fits for anniversary beers, but it also works for ABV. With 15% ABV, you’ll need four to get to 60.

Bell’s Amber is only 5.8% ABV so getting to 29 will knock you back 5 of these.

Looks like that’s all I really could come up with but I think it’s plenty. Besides it’s not as if you really needed an excuse to drink great beer from me.
