Petersburg, Your Time Has Come. Trapezium Brewing Grand Opening This Saturday.

image

Over the years, it must have seemed like every brewery that opened was based in Richmond. I have heard your wishes for a brewery closer to where you live. Last week was Chesterfield’s turn with the opening of Steam Bell Beer Works.

And now it is Petersburg turn in the spotlight with the grand opening of Trapezium Brewing Co this Saturday June 18th starting at noon.

Located in a former ice house, Trapezium Brewing boasts a 30 barrel brewhouse, 60 barrel fermenters, a 3.5 barrel pilot system, and a yeast propagation system.

Trapezium will have four core beers available for distribution–a Belgian White, IPA, Session IPA and Lemon Honey Ginger. Six packs should hit store shelves in July. Initial draft only options will include a Czech Pils and an American Wheat with peaches.

What’s your lucky number?

Just waiting on the bottling line.

Trapezium’s spacious bi-level tap room will seat 150 with more in the courtyard which will feature beers served from a 1950s houseboat.

Oh, did I mention the brick oven for serving pizza? Hmmm…maybe I should have led with that?!

Anyway. Beer and pizza. Best craft your own luck this Saurday, Petersburg!

Join Team Steam For Steam Bell Beer Works Grand Opening Today

20160606_205200.jpgSteam Bell Beer Works, Chesterfield’s first brewery, will open their doors for their grand opening today June 11th starting at 1pm. Steam Bell will have a mind boggling ten beers they will be serving throughout this weekend.

Here is a look at part of that list.

Here are a few interesting facts behind the three of the beer names:

  • Patchronce – Grisette with blackberries & raspberries.   Patch ronce is actually French for briar patch.
  • Southern Stubby – West Coast DIPA with Mandarina Bavaria, citra, and Nelson Sauvignon hops will be tapped on Sunday. Stubby is a term used for a squat (short) beer bottle in New Zealand.
  • Liège is a city in Belgium where the waffles are characterized by being sweet with vanilla and cinnamon and risen using ale yeast rather than baking soda.

Criminal Mischief Available For Your Cocktail Mixing Pleasure At Garden Grove Sunday

Criminal Mischief Garden Grove1

Credit: Garden Grove Brewing

If you’ve followed my Instagram feed lately, you may have noticed that I have a new obsession. Craft cocktails at home!

My obsession started with the purchase of Death & Co: Modern Classic Cocktails. Something about the explanations on why this type of glass or why a drink is served on ice versus without really spoke to me. Before you knew it, my liquor selection had increased exponentially. I knew I was hooked when I started to make my own bitters.

Naturally, I was excited when I heard Garden Grove had collaborated with T Leggett of the Roosevelt to make beer in the spirit of vermouth but hearing T and Brandon Peck have created cocktail recipes for the beermouth to be used in?! Ecstatic!

Criminal Mischief – our collaboration brew with the Roosevelt’s T Leggett brings a unique twist to craft Vermouth.

Featured by Robey Martin (“Bitter is the New Black”) for Richmond Mag in early March, the long-awaited release happens this Sunday, May 15th at the brewery’s taproom in Carytown, RVA after months of barrel ageing.

This “beer-mouth” was brewed with an assortment of locally grown ingredients (aronia berry, rosemary, lemon thyme) and botanicals from around the globe (bitter orange, chamomile, vanilla, hibiscus flowers, juniper berries, coriander, fresh Valencia orange peel); along with an addition of Cabernet Franc grapes grown by Naked Mountain Winery & Vineyard in Markham, VA.

A limited number of 32oz Growler fills will be available for sale beginning at 2pm on Sunday, May 15th only and will be accompanied by a cocktail recipe card courtesy of craft mixologists T Leggett & Brandon Peck of the Roosevelt.

Beyond this limited release, the one-of-a-kind brew will be available for several weeks on tap at the brewery- and for a very limited time on tap or via unique concoction at the Roosevelt in Church Hill.

Bourbon Cru Release at Hardywood — 2PM

Hardywood Bourbon Cru

Hardywood Bourbon Cru is brewed in the fashion of the abbey quadrupel, the grand cru of many of Belgium’s revered monastic breweries. Bourbon Cru displays a sunset orange hue with a substantial head and brilliant clarity after months of barrel ageing. The maturity and melding of flavors brought on by the freshly drained, half-decade old Virginia bourbon barrels from Fredericksburg’s A. Smith Bowman Distillery lends an extraordinary sense of harmony to Bourbon Cru.

Almond toffee and oaky vanilla aromatics give way to dark cherries, raisins and mature whiskey. A bit of plum flavor is greeted by caramel overtones and an assertive yet incredibly rounded body and a lingering, bourbon-laced finish. 12% abv

The tasting room opens at 2pm with Bourbon Cru on draft and in 750mL bottles, Curbside Creations Food Truck, Sammich and KavaKava gourmet, live music and vinyl sets from Hardywood’s DJ TimmyTImmyTimmy, rock schlock gold from 1050-1969 and beyond, starting at 5:00pm.
