Heavy Seas Tap Takeover at Brew Tonight

Weekend Notes: 821 Cafe, Brew, and Popkin Tavern

Tonight February 7th, 821 Cafe ups their taps to seventeen and wants to give you a free growler (with fill).  Check out their tap list here.

Saturday February 8th, Brew is throwing another of their weekly beer schools featuring Founders.

To those with questions over Popkin Tavern’s closing, here are a few things you should know:

  • Yes! Popkin will still host their FREE beer school the next two Saturdays (2/8 & 2/15) at 4PM.
  • Popkin will start discounting beer Saturday February 8th in order to move it out before they close February 15th. 
  • As I hear it, there are some cool kegs they’ve been holding on to so be prepared for surprises.   

 

Popkin Tavern Says Party Isn’t Over With Goose Island Tap Takeover Tonight

Goose Island Big John Logo3Popkin Tavern might be closing February 15th but there is still some time to have fun.  Head over tonight Thursday February 6th as they pull out some Goose Island beers stashed in their cellar including a few Bourbon County beers.

Three Reasons You Should Get Craft Beer From Whole Foods Short Pump This Weekend

  1. There is a huge sale on 750ml and 22oz bomber bottles going on right now, Friday January 31st, like as a I type this now!  The word used to describe the discounts was “DEEP.”
  2. The discounts will expand to include growler fills tomorrow February 1st from 8AM – Noon.
  3. They will tap Foothills Sexual Chocolate Saturday at 1PM. No growlers of this Imperial Stout as it is very limited.

SweetWater Rolling Through Richmond Tonight Starting at American Tap Room

By now you may have heard about SweetWater Brewing coming to town.  They have already started showing up in a few bottle shops around town, but today January 28th is when they kick things into high gear.

Head over to American Tap Room as SweetWater floods the taps beginning with 420 Extra Pale.

When does all this start? Well, 4:20 of course.  Chat up some brewery reps to earn some swag.

BeerAdvocate’s Alstrom Brothers Rolling Through Richmond Today Ending At Mekong

So when I posted about the Three Brothers beers at Mekong tonight, I did not realize that was only part of the story.  Apparently, Beeradvocate founders, Jason and Todd Alstrom will be making a few stops at breweries in Richmond today Thursday January 16th.  Assuming they stick to their schedule and traffic is kind, they will be making stops at Hardywood, Isley, and Strangeways before ending the night at Mekong.

Mekong will be rolling out the red carpet as only they can with some very special beers.  Here is just a little of what they will be tapping:

Triple The Barrel Aged Goodness From Three Brothers at Mekong Thursday Night

I try to keep from telling you that you absolutely have to try a particular beer or go to a certain event.  I guess rules were meant to be broken because personally I really think you deserve to try these barrel aged beers from Three Brothers tomorrow night at Mekong.

  • Rum Barrel Dubbel — I snagged a growler from Whole Foods right before it won a 2013 GABF medal
  • Resolute — aged in bourbon barrels for 9 months! I was hooked after only a sip.
  • Barrel Aged Vanilla Elementary — aged in barrels that once held Resolute; less bourbon flavor but vanilla and oak highlights shine through.

I would expect these to be tapped by 5PM but who knows what tricks An has planned.  Go and try these irresistibly delicious beers from one of the rising stars of Virginia beer.

I have only one question for Three Brothers. What is “Senantona?”

Troegs Takeover at Brew Gastropub Tonight

Troegs logoHead over to Brew in Chesterfield tonight Wednesday January 15th for a tap takeover featuring Troegs Brewing Company out of Hershey, PA. They will be tapping eight brews including one from their Scratch series. Besure to chat up Troegs rep Pete Showvaker to learn more about the history of the brewery and their beers.  Snag a Troegs glass to take home with your first beer.
