While not an official National Beer Expo event, this Lickinghole Creek tap takeover should be a good time. Oh and it looks like my second Farmers Market Saison pin has surfaced.
While not an official National Beer Expo event, this Lickinghole Creek tap takeover should be a good time. Oh and it looks like my second Farmers Market Saison pin has surfaced.
Richmond area breweries are tapping some special beers in honor of the National Beer Expo today Wednesday July 16th. Most beers will be tapped at 5pm though in some cases when the breweries open.
Hardywood is tapping the latest beer in their Pilot Series.
American pale ale meets wheat beer in this hoppy sessionable wheat pale ale. Brewed with a 40/60 split of pale and wheat malts, hopped very generously with both Centennial and Citra hops. Lots of late kettle hop additions plus dry hopping result in a very aromatic beer. Slightly tart with lots of citrus and dank jam fruitiness. 4.8%ABV
Come in to try it on draft and take home a growler – drink specials on Wednesdays! Cielito Lindo on site through the evening.
Isley Brewing Hoptical Illusion
Isley will tap a dry hopped version of their latest beer, a Farmhouse Ale.
Legend Bourbon Barrel Release Party
Legend will tap two bourbon barrel aged beers along with two new cask beers.
Lickinghole Creek Spiced Batchelor’s Delight
LCCB is tapping a cask condition pin of their rum barrel quad, Batchelor’s Delight, spiced with orange peel, vanilla beans, nutmeg, allspice, and black peppercorns. Somebody please bring me some of this beer to The Jefferson tonight. It sounds amazing!
Midnight Christmas in July
Christmas at Midnight, one of my favorite beers out of this Goochland brewery returns for one night only. It’s also their “Flat 4” night so beers are $4 each. While you’re there, try the official Virginia State Fair beer, Virginia Midway.
Rusty Beaver Country Road Wet Hopped Harvest Ale
Rusty Beaver in Ruther Glen will tap a wet hopped beer that was brewed using an early harvest of hops from their Country Road Hop Farm just 6 miles from the brewery. The hop farm will be the site of RB’s future larger production facility.
Strangeways Wake Me Up Before You Gose with Hibiscus
Number 3 of Strangeways’ first anniversary beers gets a dose of flower power. Try it out along with their other anniversary beers and curiosities.
Mid July Heat Buster!. It’s hot as blazes so we have some cool curiosities for ya. If you did not get a chance to taste our 3 anniversary beers (and the curiosity versions), this would be a great time to do so as all tasting goblets are one low price.
Triple Crossing Kill The Lights Black IPA & Trivia
Triple Crossing will host Trivia Night RVA and release their latest beer, Kill the Lights Black IPA.
Sours, stouts, and IPAs…oh my! Go get some!

Yeah, I know I chose a busy weekend to get away but sometimes you just have to. Save me some beer though…please!
The inaugural National Beer Expo will takeover Richmond next week from Tuesday July 15th to Sunday July 20th. There are so many great events to choose from I had trouble even picking for myself which events to attend. If you go to only one event, it has to be the Grand Tasting on Saturday July 19th with over 150 craft beers to sample; take look at the full list here. VIP admission gets you in an hour earlier plus a few exclusive tastes for $50 versus $39.50 for general admission. Check out the main ticket page for combo options to save some money.
You can use the Pombe app to plan out your tasting.

In the past, German brewers were stuck following the Reinheitsgebot (beer purity law) stating beer could only be made from four ingredients: water, malted barley, hops and yeast. For awhile, it was only three ingredients as yeast was not included. American brewers have benefited greatly by never having such constraints.
You can celebrate this freedom tomorrow Thursday June 26th as USA faces off against Germany in the 2014 World Cup. Drink these Virginia-made German style beers. Follow the Trinkin links to find where you can have the beers on tap.
