Triple The Barrel Aged Goodness From Three Brothers at Mekong Thursday Night

I try to keep from telling you that you absolutely have to try a particular beer or go to a certain event.  I guess rules were meant to be broken because personally I really think you deserve to try these barrel aged beers from Three Brothers tomorrow night at Mekong.

  • Rum Barrel Dubbel — I snagged a growler from Whole Foods right before it won a 2013 GABF medal
  • Resolute — aged in bourbon barrels for 9 months! I was hooked after only a sip.
  • Barrel Aged Vanilla Elementary — aged in barrels that once held Resolute; less bourbon flavor but vanilla and oak highlights shine through.

I would expect these to be tapped by 5PM but who knows what tricks An has planned.  Go and try these irresistibly delicious beers from one of the rising stars of Virginia beer.

I have only one question for Three Brothers. What is “Senantona?”

Tale of Two Legend Barleywines Tonight at Capital Ale House

Remember when Legend Brewing made a barleywine for Capital Ale House’s 10th Anniversary? I remember it being quite tasty.

Well, it’s back tonight at Capital Ale House Downtown starting at 4pm:

A Tale of Two Barleywines, the Legend continues. Featuring on draft the Legend Barleywine. This beer is generously hopped to balance the huge malty sweetness. We also “Dry Hopped” this one, giving it a nice spiced-floral aroma. Expect a lingering finish with plenty of warming alcohol.15% Alc. By Vol. By its side, we will be serving their 2012 Capital Ale House Anniversary Barleywine from a bottle. This beer was delicious and well balanced the first time around. Aged for a year, this beer will become a lot different as the malt-hop balance changes dramatically. These two big, complex, flavorful beers are perfectly suited for the winter season. You can also try one here and take the other home. Both come with a glass for you to take home! Glassware is very limited so don’t miss out.

On The Bright Side, There Will Still Be Some Hardywood Bourbon Gingerbread Stout

By now you’ve probably seen the post below from Hardywood.

While some of you may still be going through the stages of grief, here’s the good news: there is still Bourbon GBS to be had.  Now is a time to be thankful for the little things.  Hardywood was able to save about 18 barrels worth of the beer; that is over 4500 pints.

How will these 18 barrels be divided up, you ask? I can’t say exactly but here is what I do know:

  • A very limited quantity of bottles will be sold starting at 1PM Saturday.  Bottles will only at the brewery so Hardywood can hope to recover some of the loss.  When I stopped by Thursday, there was a palette bottled with more to be packaged.  Bottles will be limited to 2 per person. So get there early if you absolute have to have a bottle.
  • Some kegs will make it to the market. So if you’ve seen an event planning to have Bourbon GBS, I’d expect that they will still have it but probably at a lesser quantity than planned.

Here are some events where you’ll find BB GBS at:

This is not all the places who will get a keg but it will get you started.  I’ll update when I have more tapping times.

Between Stone & Strangeways Takeovers Tonight

AFM Gargoyle3

Here are two interesting tap takeovers for your consideration tonight Friday November 22nd.

Conundrum of Copious Curiosities & Blitzkrieg Bock Escape Party! — 4PM

Strangeways gets even stranger as they take over all of their taps. Wait?! What?! Yep, those crazy guys will have 25 different beers flowing in the lab on at one time including their new Blitzkrieg Bock.

Here’s the run down on their newest stranger:

Hey ho, let’s go…Blitzkrieg Bock is a revved up black lager brewed with a slew of angst-ridden malts. Opal, Smaragd and Perle hops are piling in the back seat, as healthy additions of cinnamon and cocoa nibs pulsate to the back beat. Blitzkrieg Bock went through a tight wind in some old oak barrels, while simultaneously being intensified with a duo of light roasted local RVA coffees. The brewers are losing their minds worshipping this Punk Anti-Stout. 6.66% ABV/17 IBU
