Virginia Craft Beer Month Kickoff at Legend

Richmond, are you tired of waiting for August to get here so we can celebrate Virginia Craft Beer Month.  Virginia Tourism is just as excited as you and is throwing a kickoff party at Legend Brewing today July 25th starting at 4pm.  They’ve even extended you an invitation:

You have likely heard about Virginia’s reputation as a wine and culinary destination, but Virginia is also brewin’ up some award-winning, hand-crafted beers.  In fact, the Travel Channel just named Virginia as one of the top seven beer destinations.  This is great timing as this August Virginia craft breweries will have the spotlight all month long in Virginia during the first-ever August Virginia Craft Beer Month.

Bring a friend and get ready to share the love of Virginia craft beer with us on Wednesday, July 25 at 4p.m. at Legend Brewery for our Love on Tap: August Virginia Craft Beer Month kick off event. Get there right on time because the first 100 people to show up will score some free Virginia is for Lovers craft beer swag.

All attendees will have the chance to meet with some of Virginia’s craft brewers and get the scoop on the month’s theme, fun events, travel packages and more.

Cheers, hope to see you there!

Oh and if you’re lucky, you might just snag a Virginia is for Craft Beer Lovers shirt like this one:

See you there! Prost!

Saturday Virginia Beer Dilemma

Ever have one of those days where you want to be two places at once but know there is no way on earth you could do both.  This Saturday July 14th is one such day for me.  This dilemma involves two of my favorite Virginia breweries: Mad Fox Brewing and Hardywood.

Now you’ve probably heard me talk about Mad Fox in the past but what I probably haven’t mentioned is one of my favorite beers to get from them is their Orange Whip IPA.  This is very strange considering I typically drink on the maltier side of the beer spectrum.  To think I’ve only had Orange Whip once and it left such an impression on me that I look for it every time I visit Mad Fox.

When Mad Fox said they were tapping Orange Whip to kickoff their Second Anniversary Party, I almost died.  I was so set to go but guess what happened.

Hardywood had a little announcement of their own: Virginia Strawberry is ready to be unleashed on the masses.  Saturday from 2 – 8pm will be your first chance to get Hardywood’s latest Reserve Series beer.  What’s more, famed Richmond mixologist Bobby Kruger is making a special trip back from NYC to create a signature Randall especially for this release.   Two of the ingredients I hear Bobby will be adding to the Randall are pink peppercorns and dark Belgian candy sugar.  Of course, there will be music and food to enjoy as well.

Two great brewery events to have to pick from is a pretty cool dilemma to have.  What would you choose?

Blue Mountain Tap Takeover Tonight at Sedona Taphouse

Sedona Taphouse has been having a string of great events making it a stand out beer destination in Midlothian, VA.  Tonight Tuesday July 10th is no different as Sedona holds Blue Mountain tap takeover featuring all of their Barrel House Series beers plus a pin of  dry hopped Full Nelson.  As with each of their tap takeovers, Sedona sweetens the deal by holding a glass giveaway as well.  So if you missed your chance  to try the new Barrel House beers last month, tonight’s your chance.

Custom Hardywood Cornhole Boards Stolen

This is sad people. I really have no other words, at least words I can type here.  If you know something, please help.

From Hardywood:

Our beloved cornhole boards disappeared from the field across the street on July 4. These were one of a kind and given to us as a gift by someone who put a lot of passion into them. We’d like your help in getting them back. We’re offering a $200 gift certificate for their safe return or information leading to their safe return. Please help!

Legend Throwing Diabetes Fundraiser For Local Family

Head out to one of the best patios in Richmond for a good cause on Saturday July 7th. Here are the details from Legend Brewing’s Facebook page:

On July 7 at 12:00 noon Legend Brewing Company and Sports Radio WRVA will be hosting a fund raising event for Devin Dunn, a local 10 year old boy with type one diabetes. Devin has to have his blood sugar tested 15 times a day. This fund raiser is to help the family buy a Diabetes Alert Dog. The dog will alert Devin’s parents to high or low blood sugar. Not only can it alert them 25 to 45 minutes faster than a meter, it will also allow him more freedom to be a young boy.

The first 300 people in attendance will receive a Support a Cure bracelet. Minimum $3 donation at the door required for entry Two live music sets will start at 3:30 and 7:30 lasting for 3 hours each. A portion of the proceeds from food and beverage truck sales will go to Devin.  Donations will be taken inside the pub as well.

Claim Your Brewdependence at Hardywood Tomorrow

If you follow them on Facebook, you know Hardywood is throwing a Fourth of July party unlike any other.  They will be celebrating the release of their newest beer SB (Special Bitter) 604 in honor of Virginia breweries gaining the right to sell pints of beer.  Here are some of the beers to be featured at the event:

  • SB 604, 3.8% ABV, American-style special bitter (served in commemorative handled mason jar)
  • Singel, 6.2% ABV, Belgian Abbey-style Blonde Ale
  • Singel Shandy, 3.1% ABV, half Hardywood Singel, half Francie’s Lemonade (fresh squeezed ginger lemonade)
  • Hoplar, 8.5% ABV, Dry-hopped Imperial IPA Conditioned on Virginia Tulip Poplar Wood

Bring your own lawn chairs or picnic blanket and grab a prime music/fireworks viewing spot in the nTelos Field across the street from the brewery.

So come out and join the celebration. Head over to the Facebook event for parking and other details.

Celebrate Virginia Beer Independence Tonight at Hardywood

July 1st marks the first day Virginia breweries will be able to legally sell full pints of beer thanks to the passage of SB604.  Head out tonight and join Hardywood from midnight to 1AM for a few pints and get a sneak peek of their new beer “SB604” aka Special Bitter 604.  Fittingly, VA Craft Brewers Guild Chairman and Legend Brewer, Mike Killelea will be there to purchase the first glass.  So head out and raise a glass to this auspicious occasion.  Can’t make out there myself tonight so someone raise a glass for me too.
