Talk about jaw dropping moments. I had no idea Allagash had even made a cookbook. I mean you know how much I love, love, love to cook with beer. Imagine my surprise to see the picture above with this text from Whole Foods:

I think my heart stopped for just a split second. I know you want to rush off and buy the book now just as I do, but as with most book signings I’m guessing buying the book from the venue, Whole Foods in this case, will be required. I hope you have saved the date on your calendar just as I have.
Richmond Hardywood Bourbon Gingerbread Stout will be released tomorrow, Saturday December 15th.
Hardywood will open from 10AM – Noon Saturday morning for a pre-sale event for bottles and merchandise. There is no doubt that people will be lining up for this just as they did for Gingerbread Stout. Keep in mind there will be a 2 bottle/person limit.
Bourbon GBS will be available in half and full pints from 2 – 9PM. The Joey Ciucci Trio and Paulo Franco & the Rateros playing sets starting at 3 and 6:30pm, respectively.
Only 30 barrels were filled with this beer. So when it’s gone, it’s gone. Growler fills seem unlikely due to the limited nature of the beer. This is not unusual. If you remember, this was the same situation with Bourbon Cru. At any rate, enjoy the beer while you can.

Tonight , December 12, 2012, Fat Dragon will be a great place to be tonight as they host their 12 Beers of Christmas dinner. The special dinner menu will be available all night from 4:30 – 10pm. SantaCon is also happening tonight. Wikipedia explains it simply:
SantaCon is an annual mass gathering of people dressed in Santa Claus costumes parading publicly on streets and in bars in cities around the world. The focus is on spontaneity and creativity, while having a good time and spreading cheer and goodwill.[1]
Sometimes known as Naughty Santas, Cheapsuit Santas, Santarchy, Santapalooza, and Santa Rampage, SantaCon incorporates elements of a flash mob in the context of cheerful bawdy and harmless behavior, the singing of naughty Christmas carols, and the giving of small gifts to strangers.
If this sounds like fun to you, you’ll want to join SantaCon RVA as they hit a few bars downtown. They have added a charity portion this year with Toys for Tots. Here are their scheduled stops:
6:00 pm – Gibson’s Grill, 700 E. Broad Street.
8:30 pm – Capital Ale House, 623 E. Main Street. (downstairs game room)
10:30 pm – Sine’ Irish Pub, 1327 East Cary Street.
Toy collection boxes will be at both Gibson’s and Capital Ale. They will not be collecting toys at Sine.

The Holiday Cheer & Beer Classic will be held at The Meadow Event Park tomorrow Saturday December 8th from noon to 7pm. It will be Virginia’s largest and as far as I can tell first indoor craft beer festival. HCBC is so much more than a craft beer festival. Look for vendors selling items such as unique beer glasses, peanuts, barbecue, and more. Who knows you might just finish your holiday shopping in one day.
Admission to the festival is free for all ages but of course, you must be over 21 to drink. Tasting tickets will be $1 each. Tasting passport is $10 for twelve samples. Pints will be available for $6.

Head out for ReEstablish Richmond’s Pour & Tour event tonight Wednesday December 5th as they give guided tours of their current project renovating the old Adam’s Camera Shop to help serve the city’s refugee population.
They will be pouring craft beer from the area’s newest brewery, Center of the Universe. Enjoy COTU’s Kolsch or Ray Ray’s Pale Ale starting with your $10/donation with additional beers for $5 each. Event sponsor Executive Auto has covered the cost of the kegsfor the evening so all of your donations go directly to the cause.
There will also be a photo booth and photographer taking custom photos with donations.

I was really thinking about settling in for a quiet evening at home. That was until I found out about the Devils Backbone Tap Takeover at Popkin Tavern tonight, Tuesday December 4th. Starting at 6pm, they will feature eight nine Devils Backbone beers, many of which have only seen sort stints in RVA. Get there before 7pm and enjoy happy hour pricing on the beers. Devils Backbone rep Brian Coe will be on hand to answer any questions.

Frequent Mekong enough and you have probably enjoyed a sour beer or two. Garnering top scores on Ratebeer and Beeradvocate, it’s no surprise BFM Bon Chien is the most popular sour ordered.
Tonight Thursday November 29th will be a special night as Mekong welcomes BFM (Brasserie des Franches-Montagnes) founder Jérôme Rebetez. To start the evening, they will be tapping a Bon Chien vertical of 2009, 2010 and 2011. Other BFM beers are sure to be tapped throughout the evening.
It is not often that we get visited by someone like Rebetez. So head out and soak up some Swiss craft beer knowledge.
